Edmond Scientific Developing AI/ML-Enhanced Digital Engineering Environment for Advanced Manufacturing
Alexandria, Virginia (November 2020) –– Edmond Scientific Company (ESC) is performing research and development under the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Center-Armaments Center (CCDC-AC) to develop and demonstrate a digital engineering environment to support Advanced Manufacturing (AvM) capabilities of 3D electronics and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and polymers. AvM capabilities include additive manufacturing and flexible hybrid electronics for both polymer and metal component fabrication. The engineering environment includes immersive digital design and digital manufacturing domains to allow collaborative design between ECAD and MCAD engineers, managers and end users, and provides remote monitoring and control of the manufacturing process by industrial engineers or managers. To aid the engineering team’s monitoring and control of the remote manufacturing process, manufacturing feedback will be enhanced with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies to control tolerances at the micron level and help automate control feedback loops for improved quality.
